ITINERARY

  • Sunrise Over Tonle Sap: Prek Toal Floating Village & Bird Sanctuary Tour

    4:30am Pick up,

It’s an early start as we leave the hotel at 4.30am. After that it’s a 40 minute drive in our air conditioned vehicle to Mechrey Floating village where we’ll board a boat that will take us out to see sunrise along  Tonle Sap Lake, from there, we’ll continue to Prek Toal floating village and bird Sanctuary. From the boat, as you gently drift along, you’ll get to see the local Khmer fishermen bringing in their catch as we watch the sun rise along Tonle Sap Lake.

Prek Toal is one of the biggest floating villages on the Lake and is located in Battambang, at the mouth of Sangke River. More than 2,000 families live at Prek Toal floating village so it has its own school, floating market, Buddhist temple, and even has a Crocodile farm (where the crocodiles are kept in cages under the board walk).

You’ll have the opportunity to explore Prek Toal and visit Osmost Basket weaving where they plait hyacinth reeds plucked from the lake and dried and woven into matts and baskets. Afterwards, we’ll join a local Cambodian family for lunch, sitting on woven mats in their house, eating, smiling and laughing with them.
After lunch, we’ll take a shallow boat through the mangrove forests so you can get up close and watch the water birds.

If you have the time, you have the great opportunity to stay overnight with a local family at Prek Toal, perfect if you want to fully immerse yourselves and experience life on a floating village

More Tour

Banteay Srei is a 10th-century temple in Cambodia, dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. Located about 37 kilometers northeast of the main Angkor Wat complex, it is famous for its intricate pink sandstone carvings, which depict scenes from Hindu mythology. The name Banteay Srei means “Citadel of Women” or “Citadel of Beauty,” likely referring to the delicate and highly detailed craftsmanship of the temple.

Unlike many other Angkorian temples, which were built by kings, Banteay Srei was commissioned by a Brahmin named Yajnavaraha, who was a counselor to King Rajendravarman II. The temple was used as a place of worship and learning, particularly for Shaivism, a sect of Hinduism devoted to Shiva.

Today, Banteay Srei is one of the most well-preserved and beloved temples in Cambodia, attracting visitors for its unique artistry and historical significance.

The Tonle Sap is the largest fresh water lake in Southeast Asia. Its water levels are rising and falling with the seasonal rains and the tributaries even reverse their flow.

Colorful settlements are scattered on the margins of the great lake and it will be my pleasure to take you to my favorite spots. Time of year plays an important role here, some villages become completely dry during the hot season and lower water levels across the whole lake may make trips somewhat challenging.

Escape the crowds and journey deep into Cambodia’s countryside to discover the remote and mystical temples of Koh Ker and Beng Mealea. Explore the ancient 7-tiered pyramid of Prasat Thom, wander through tree-covered ruins, and experience the serene beauty of these lesser-visited sites. This full-day tour offers a glimpse into the lost history of the Khmer Empire while immersing you in the stunning natural landscapes of rural Cambodia.
